Alex Aguilera
Director of Communications
About My Role
As the Director of Communications for the Winter Park Health Foundation, I am tasked with developing and leading the communications and marketing strategies that showcase the Foundation’s mission-driven work and strengthen our relationships with the communities we serve. My role entails overseeing the creation of messages, materials, and multimedia content for both WPHF and the Center for Health & Wellbeing, leveraging a variety of platforms to reach and inform both internal and external stakeholders, as well as the public.
Why are you passionate about WPHF's mission to improve health in our community?
In our fast-paced society, where racing from event to event and responsibility to responsibility is the norm, not the exception, too often too many of us simply forget or do not make the time to take care of ourselves. But when our health plummets down the priority list, it does not just affect our lives, it endangers them. That is why this shift—this focus on holistic health and a new definition of what it means to live successfully—is so vitally important, and I am honored to play a part in helping people get healthier, and in turn, happier.
What are your words to live by?
“You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.” – Wayne Gretzky
I am a huge proponent of shooting for the moon. Even if you can’t quite reach, you still might catch a few stars.
Where can we find you outside of work?
When I’m not on the job, you’ll typically see me in Mommy mode, out and about with my husband, Frank, chasing after our little ones, Tatiana and Victor. We love our Disney days, trips to the movies, and all the fun festivals and events that make Central Florida such an amazing place to live. If I am indulging in a little MomME time, I am likely streaming a rom-com, enjoying a musical theater performance, or sitting in my happy place (Barnes & Noble) sipping a chai tea latte and immersing myself in my current favorite novel or working on my own fiction writing projects.
More About Me
If you ever got up early to watch WESH 2 News between 2015 and 2020, you might remember me by my maiden name—Alex Villarreal. I began my communications career as a broadcast journalist, spending eight years in international news at the Voice of America in Washington, D.C., before working as a local TV news anchor and reporter for WESH.
The opportunity to inform, enlighten, and inspire through written and visual storytelling—giving voice to the voiceless and shining spotlights on the shadows—is what motivated me to become a journalist, and it is a calling I was proud to continue fulfilling as a Public Information Officer for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. After more than three and a half years at OCSO, I joined WPHF in January of 2025, and I am thrilled to contribute to this team and its impact.
A grateful graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I am a Tar Heel at heart, but my husband often has me cheering for the Gators (unless for some reason they’re playing UNC).
