Coordinated
  Youth Initiative

Started in 1997, the Coordinated Youth Initiative (CYI) is a partnership between the Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF) and Orange County Public Schools (OCPS).

Through this initiative, WPHF has invested more than $24 million to provide free health services for students of more than a dozen schools across Winter Park, Maitland, and Eatonville.

CYI encompasses three vital components: School-Based Health Centers, the CHILL Counseling Program, and the School Nursing Initiative.

CHILL Counseling Program

School-based CHILL (Community Help and Intervention in Life’s Lessons) Counselors focus on prevention and early intervention to support youth mental health. They help students in grades 6–12 with challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, low self-esteem, anger management, and parental divorce. CHILL Counselors provide individual, group, and family counseling to meet students’ needs.

Students or families interested in this program should contact their school’s front office for assistance.

School Nursing Initiative

Licensed nurses in schools handle emergencies and treat illnesses so students can return to class as quickly as possible, ready to learn and make the most of the school day. Financial support from WPHF helps schools upgrade from a School Health Aide (SHA) to a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN).

CYI Toolkit

The Coordinated Youth Initiative (CYI) Toolkit features digital and print materials designed to help school leaders inform students and their families of the free health services available through CYI, funded by the Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF).

Initiative Objectives

  • Encourage students and their caregivers to take advantage of these free resources.
  • Highlight the importance of obtaining both medical and mental health support and normalize using these services.
  • Raise awareness of the partnership uniting WPHF, Orange County Public Schools, and Healthcare Providers of Florida.
