The Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF) celebrated the importance of the arts in fostering community wellbeing during the City of Winter Park’s annual Arts Weekend. This four-day events series showcased the more than 20 members of the Winter Park Arts & Culture Alliance, including WPHF.

The festivities kicked off on Thursday, February 20, with a free arts-in-health program hosted by WPHF and The Pabst Steinmetz Foundation at the Center for Health & Wellbeing.

Titled “Take 2 Monets and Call Me in the Morning: The Powerful Impact of the Arts on Health & Wellbeing,” the informative and enriching evening featured a keynote presentation by world-renowned Arts in Medicine researcher Jill Sonke, Ph.D., of the University of Florida, a conversation between Dr. Sonke and powerhouse Central Florida philanthropist Margery Pabst Steinmetz, as well as special performances by Opera Orlando’s Gabriel Preisser, spoken word artist Alana Jackson and strings musicians from the AdventHealth Orchestra.

The fun continued at Winter Park’s iconic Central Park, where on Saturday, WPHF empowered attendees to showcase their creativity with an interactive booth for Art in the Park titled “Embrace the Light.” The activity invited people to explore the connection between art and mindfulness while creating beautiful sun catchers under the thoughtful guidance of creative health professional Kaileigh Anne.

On Sunday, WPHF invited visitors to the Center for Health & Wellbeing to discover the healing power of art through a self-guided immersion experience, which included a hands-on drawing and journaling activity, a photography exhibit, an exploration of the Center’s floor medallions representing the Seven Dimensions of Wellbeing and a tour through the Center’s six external gardens.

We look forward to continuing to demonstrate how engaging in the arts can boost wellbeing in our community! If you’d like to learn more about the Arts & Culture Alliance, visit wpinspires.org.
