Center for Health & Wellbeing: Facility & Site
The Center for Health & Wellbeing is a is a new two-story, approximately 79,000 sq. ft. facility integrating services and programs for Wellness, Fitness and Medicine to improve the health and quality of life for local residents.
The site encompasses 4.2 acres in Winter Park near the City’s Ward Park and Showalter Field. It is easily accessible via the nearby Cady Way Trail. Free car and bicycle parking will be available in a new garage on the site, including four decks offering five levels with 271 spaces for parking cars and eight lockers for storing bicycles. Bike racks will be located in various locations around the site.
The Winter Park Health Foundation is the developer and co-owner of the Center for Health & Wellbeing. In February 2017, the Foundation announced Florida Hospital would be a partner in the project as co-owner and provider of medical services. The Center is currently under construction and set for opening late 2018.
The Commons: Community Meeting Places & Spaces
The heart of the Center for Health & Wellbeing will be the light-filled central Commons, offering the community flexible, multipurpose spaces for events and socializing.
The Conference Center will host educational programs addressing seven dimensions of wellness to help residents improve health and live as fully as possible. Two large adjoining meeting rooms can be combined to accommodate up to 250 attendees for an event.
The Healthy Living Experience will feature interactive activities and the latest information on what is trending in health and wellness. In addition, there will be opportunities to learn about the latest technologies and services available to help residents manage health, live safely and improve quality of life; for themselves or loved ones.
Café & Nutrition Theater
The Center for Health & Wellbeing will be home to a Café serving healthy cuisine to facility visitors, Crosby Wellness Center members, neighbors, employees from nearby businesses, and anyone seeking to eat healthy, clean, and locally sourced food. The Café will have indoor and outdoor seating for eating in; plus, options for grab & go and take out service.
A Nutrition Theater adjoining the Café will guide home chefs of any level on how to cook healthier meals and how to choose ingredients that ensure good nutrition. Cooking classes will be offered for those with health issues including diabetes, heart disease, excess weight, and nutritional challenges.
Clinical Services
Approximately 16,000 sq. ft. within the Center for Health & Wellbeing will be dedicated to medical offices and clinical spaces owned and staffed by Florida Hospital, providing a one-stop location for medical and wellness consultation and services. The Center will be home to Florida Hospital Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation with physical therapists, massage and other integrative medicine services to help patients have an improved quality of life. Physical therapists will help prepare patients for ongoing physical activity following treatment. The goal is long-term health and vitality.
New Crosby Wellness Center
The Center for Health & Wellbeing will feature a new Peggy & Philip B. Crosby Wellness Center. The new center will include:
- Natatorium with two pools – one with 4 lanes dedicated to lap swimming, and one specifically for warm water therapy and aquatic exercise.
- Upgraded locker rooms with four family changing rooms.
- Two large multi-purpose fitness rooms for group exercise, yoga, spinning, and other classes.
- Large, functional open space for exercise equipment and weights.
- Expanded Children’s Wellness Center for infants and children who need to be cared for while parent or grandparents are accessing services or programs within the Center for Health & Wellbeing.
The Winter Park Health Foundation plans to prepare the Crosby Wellness Center for Medical Fitness Association certification. Certified medically integrated fitness centers feature the professional expertise and programming necessary to safely and effectively assist people, regardless of their current health status, to develop, initiate, and maintain an active lifestyle that minimizes the risk of illness and disease and promotes health and wellness.
Walking Paths
The Center for Health & Wellbeing will offer two options for those who enjoy fitness or recreational walking.
Indoors, overlooking the Commons, all visitors to the facility will have access to a walking track. It will be approximately 8′ wide and 12.5 laps will equal one mile. Outdoors, circling the perimeter of the site, members of the community will be able to experience multiple gardens as they enjoy the 8’ wide sidewalk designed for all users. The loop is .4 miles and 2.5 laps will equal one mile.
