Let’s Walk!

Walking has a multitude of health benefits to help you maintain mobility and independence.

Join us at one or more of these Active Aging community walks sponsored by Healthy Central Florida. Participants can enter a drawing for a free FitBit. The more times you walk–the more times you can enter the drawing. Healthy Central Florida T-shirts, pedometers and water will be provided at all locations. Most walks last 30 – 45 minutes and all levels and abilities are welcome and will be  accommodated.

Hungerford Preparatory School

Join Mayor Bruce Mount as he inspires community members to improve their health and well-being by walking and talking in a group.

Meet us in the gym (large building facing Kennedy Blvd.) for a fun, friendly, 30-minute walk.  All walking abilities and levels welcome.

Walk and talk as we view a bit of lakeside nature and Park Avenue’s charm. Meet us in the community room. Sample our regular Tuesday morning walking group.  This walk typically takes about 45 minutes and goes along beautiful Lake Virginia, Park Avenue and more.

Morning Session: Learn about the common causes of falls and how to prevent them from Dr. Rose Appel.  Experience Tai Chi and Yoga demonstrations to improve balance.  Bring your current medications for review and consider potential adverse effects that might increase your risk of falling.  See products designed to help you stay safe at home.

An Exploration of Inner Spiritual Disciplines – stop by for a spiritual lecture by Rollins College professor Paul W. Jacob. Mr. Jacob, who teaches Creative Nonfiction and Travel Writing at Rollins, has also lived and worked at various spiritual retreat centers and monasteries in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Art for Generations is an exhibit featuring works of art created by older adults.  Stop by the Mayflower to see which pieces win the “Merit Award” and “Best of Show.
