Since our founding in 1994, the Winter Park Health Foundation has partnered with local nonprofit organizations, investing in projects and programs that meet the Foundation’s mission of making a positive difference in people’s lives by optimizing physical, mental and social health and wellbeing.
One of those recent projects is “Hands-On Inspiration Fine Art Classes,” a collaboration between Crealde School of Art and Easterseals Florida’s Day Break program. This program enhances the quality of life of Day Break participants, many of whom have development disabilities, through artmaking with the goals of creating a pleasurable experience, boosting self-esteem, improving fine motor skills, enhancing socialization, and stimulating reflection.
Crealde Instructor Fabiola Hansen has uplifted seniors through hands-on visual art projects at Crealdé’s outreach locations for 17 years. With WPHF’s investment in the program, Fabiola worked with a class of DayBreak participants for 1½ hours each week to create fine artwork such as sculpting, painting, memory shadow boxes, and more. At the end of the program’s annual cycle, Crealdé curated an exhibition of participant artwork at Day Break to share with family and friends.
That exhibition is now on display at the Center for Health & Wellbeing. View the video above for a sneak peek at the exhibition, then stop by the Center to view these important and impactful works of art on display.
