The Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF), a leading non-profit dedicated to the health and wellbeing of the communities of Eatonville, Maitland and Winter Park, Florida, has announced changes to its Board of Trustees.  Joining the organization’s Board as a new Trustee is Judith Burnett, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist and Stetson University associate professor; following seven years of service, Dr. Rita Bornstein has retired from service on the WPHF Board.

Judith (Judy) Burnett, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and an associate professor in the Department of Counselor Education at Stetson University where she teaches courses focusing on mental health and community-based counseling, as well as supervises graduate internship students. She is an accomplished author who has facilitated seminars and presented at conferences and workshops internationally, nationally and locally. Her areas of scholarly interest include reproductive health psychology, culturally focused service-learning and integrative approaches to wellness.

Judy is an honors graduate of Brown University and received her master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She completed post-internship and post-doctoral training at Georgetown and Vanderbilt Universities.

Judy’s passion for service in diversity, global mental health issues, and international counseling has led to a project working with Inua Partners in Hope which has taken her to Naivasha, Kenya. There, she provided grief counseling, emotional wellness and leadership training to residents and is currently directing the development of Inua’s psychosocial wellness training curriculum being used to support orphaned and vulnerable youth. She expanded her work focused on marginalized populations locally by designing and supervising the emotional wellness program for the First United Methodist Church of Winter Park’s Foundry, a mentoring program for young adults that have aged out of the foster care system.

Judy serves on the Trinity Preparatory School Board of Trustees and is a Board member for First United Methodist Church of Winter Park’s Inua Partners in Hope program and 4 Pillars Counseling and Enrichment Center.

“We are thrilled to welcome Judy to our Board of Trustees,” said Sam Stark, Chair of the WPHF Board and Vice President of Communications & External Relations at Rollins College. “From Winter Park to Naivasha, Kenya, Judy’s ‘think globally, act locally’ approach to her personal and professional work in mental health will be a tremendous asset to our Board and to the health and wellbeing of our communities.”

“While we enthusiastically welcome Judy to our Board, we are also saying farewell to a long-time, incredibly impactful advocate in Dr. Rita Bornstein, president emerita of Rollins College,” said Patricia Maddox, President and CEO of the Winter Park Health Foundation. “On behalf of our current Board members and those who served alongside her for many years, I’d like to acknowledge Rita’s service and convey a deep appreciation for the many contributions she made to our work and to our communities. She will be missed.”
