HCF Announces Winners of 2016 Walk ‘n’ Roll Poster Contest
Healthy Central Florida (HCF) hosted the second annual poster contest among elementary and middle school students in Winter Park, Maitland and Eatonville to promote and encourage safe walking and biking to school. Dozens of outstanding entries poured in from ten elementary and middle schools.
With cash prizes at stake and the opportunity to have their artwork showcased at the Winter Park and Maitland Public Libraries, students created clever slogans and colorful depictions of crosswalks, roadways and sidewalks.
An active commute (walking, biking, skating or scootering) is a healthy commute. Safety is a top priority too. Using WalkSafe, a curriculum developed by the University of Miami, students learn how to walk safely to school, the bus stop, a friend’s house, the library and throughout the community.

YOUR help is needed, too. Please remember:
- SLOW DOWN in school zones.
- Watch out for children and parents walking/riding to school.
- YIELD to pedestrians in crosswalks (anywhere, not just in school zones).
- Don’t ever text while driving. Lives are at stake.
