Finally! The weather is a bit cooler and you could actually do this. Ride your bike to work and save money, the environment and your health – and have some much-needed fun!
Based on the success of its “Walk and Roll Wednesdays,” Healthy Central Florida, an initiative founded by the Winter Park Health Foundation and Florida Hospital, recently launched “Bike to Work Fridays” – weekly ride-to-work days.
Why Friday? Many workplaces already observe “casual Friday.” If not, Healthy Central Florida suggests it is a great time for companies to join the healthy, green movement. Promoting casual Fridays and better yet active, fun, bike Fridays is just what the doctor ordered.
If you have been wanting to try biking to work and are unsure of the best or safest route…or, you’ve considered riding your bike to a SunRail station and riding a train part of the way but can’t figure out how to navigate it, check out ReThink Your Commute. This service helps riders map and ride a safe route from home to work or their desired destination.
Healthy Central Florida will be partnering with ReThink Your Commute, which is promoting a coffee and commuting and networking event on December 17th from 7 to 10am, in conjunction with the City of Winter Park in front of City Hall.
Jill Hamilton Buss, HCF Executive Director, will be blogging about biking to work and sharing stories of those who are having fun, getting fit, saving money and helping the environment. HCF’s first profile is of Travis Martin who rides 16 miles to work from the Dr. Phillips area to the Winter Park Whole Foods every day! Check out Travis’ story and you will definitely be inspired.
