Winter Park Health Foundation Celebrates 20th Anniversary
More than 100 past and present Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF) Trustees, and leaders from major WPHF community partners, gathered February 28 at The Alfond Inn in Winter Park to celebrate the Foundation’s 20th anniversary and to hear Winter Park Mayor Ken Bradley proclaim March 1 as Winter Park Health Foundation 20th Anniversary Day. Patricia Maddox, WPHF President & CEO, also used the 20th Anniversary celebration to announce WPHF was awarding a total of $20,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations to help boost the health of the community. But, in a unique twist, she told guests they were getting the chance to decide how the funds would be disbursed.
Each invitee received a $200 “grant gift card” to use in designating contributions to one or more of 20 non-profits selected to benefit from this unique grant in commemoration of the Foundation’s 20th Anniversary. To “spend” the gift card, the user goes online to a special registry to designate which organizations they would like to receive the funds.
“We thought long and hard about how to properly honor our valued trustees—old and new—who have given so much to the community, explained Ms. Maddox. We decided providing them with gifts they could then share with the community would be a unique and appropriate way to do so.”
The event also featured the premiere of an anniversary video providing an overview of the history of the foundation and the many programs and projects it has supported with grants over the past 20 years. Click here to view the video.
In honor of the anniversary, WPHF also launched a new website and logo to reflect the WPHF anniversary theme—Inspiring Healthy Communities. The website is designed to inspire and empower visitors to join the foundation in its work to create a healthy community. The foundation also will also have an increased presence on social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Pinterest to reach even more readers and viewers.
In addition, WPHF is launching an e-newsletter to former trustees, community leaders, stakeholders, partners and anyone interested in keeping up with foundation news, activities and other information of interest. You can sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of this page.
And there is more. The foundation will be highlighting our 20th anniversary at partner/grantee activities throughout the year, including the upcoming grand opening of Healthy Eatonville Place, as well as at a WPHF-hosted community event later this year.
Also planned during our anniversary year, WPHF will conduct and release results of its fourth Community Health Assessment. It expected to be released in mid-May.
