Local Leaders Celebrate Groundbreaking for New Fitness Trail in Winter Park

Leaders from the Winter Park Rotary, the City of Winter Park and Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF) were joined by staff and students from Winter Park High School on January 22 to celebrate the ground breaking for phase one of the Community Fitness Trail for Persons with Special Needs.

The trail is located in the Southeast corner of Winter Park High School and the property borders Cady Way Trail, Baldwin Park and the Orlando VA Medical Center. It is expected to be open to the public by this summer.

The purpose of the Community Fitness Trail is to create a place where people of all ages and abilities can experience the benefits of an active lifestyle.
The practice field will be a multi-purpose area for team practices, community gatherings and VA events. Two community pavilions, to be built in the future, will provide a safe place in the event of sudden weather changes or lightning.

WPHF provided a $15,000 challenge grant, through its Community Health Policy Work Group, to help fund the project.

The Rotary Club hopes to raise funds to be able to add fitness stations along the trail within a year.
