Low-Cost Bus Service For Seniors Launched in Winter Park
Shop ‘n Shuttle, a new, low-cost weekly bus service for older adults living at the Plymouth Apartments and Calvary Towers, launched in November thanks in part to a grant from the Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF) through its Older Adults Work Group.
The pilot project was the result of a collaborative partnership including WPHF, Seniors First, Inc., LYNX and the Senior Resource Alliance.
WPHF awarded the $6,086 grant to fund the cost of a temporary part-time Outreach Coordinator needed to manage the outreach and marketing, preliminary coordination, publicity and program evaluation, and to cover related materials.
The bus service operates from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Daily round trip tickets cost $5 and the bus makes stops at a grocery, drug store, shopping plaza and a bagel restaurant.
