Boost Your Brain Camp Kicks Off in Eatonville

The first of three 50+ Boost Your Brain Camps—made possible by grant funding through the Winter Park Health Foundation’s Boost Your Brain Initiative—kicked off October 15 at the Denton Johnson Community Center in the Town of Eatonville.

It drew 34 older adult participants as well as representatives from Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Orlando Health and the Town of Eatonville.

Eatonville Mayor Bruce Mount, along with fellow Town Council members and staff, Pastor Willie C. Barnes and members of the church’s  health ministry, as well as leadership from Orlando Health’s Memory Disorder Clinic and Chaplain Services, all celebrated by providing a program overview. Planned camp activities include nutrition-related field trips, a memory training course, sign language, chair exercise and spiritual sharing.

The $25,000 grant for the program went to Orlando Health which is collaborating with the Town of Eatonville and Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church to provide the camp. It was one of five grants totaling just over $105,000 awarded for community programs designed to enhance the brain health of older adults.
