WPHF Emergency and Urgent Care Department in Planning Phase

The Winter Park Health Foundation Emergency and Urgent Care Department, supported by a $3 million contribution from Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF), “is in master planning phases for expansion through the end of the decade,” according to Ken Bradley, CEO, Winter Park Memorial Hospital.

“In 2006, a special ceremony will formally name the current department and honor the Winter Park Health Foundation for its gracious contribution,” he added.

WPHF trustees in early 2005 announced they would make their contribution to help launch the hospital’s campaign to raise funds to expand the hospital to meet the growing needs of the community.

WPHF funds were earmarked for the rebuilding and expansion of the hospital’s emergency department and urgent care services.

The contribution, noteworthy for the WPHF in terms of its size and its intended use for a building campaign as opposed to program development and support, was approved because of the legacy shared by the hospital and the foundation.

"We were there at the very beginning of Winter Park Memorial Hospital--because our organization was actually created in the early 1950's to raise money to help open the hospital," explained Allan E. Keen, chairman of the WPHF Board of Trustees.

"And now, though the hospital and our foundation work independent of each other, we believe it is critically important to continue to take a leadership position ...and to support our shared legacy, and mission of helping make Winter Park the healthiest community in the country," he said.
