Mobility Forum Draws Key Speakers
The Mobility Forum, focused on senior transportation issues and co-sponsored by the Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF), is drawing some key speakers, including Josefina Carbonell, Assistant Secretary with the Administration on Aging, and William Millar, president of the American Public Transportation Association.
The eventtitled Independence and Senior Mobility: Getting Therewill be held June 28-29 at the Radisson WorldGate Resort, Kissimmee.
The event will be used to identify community challenges and opportunities for meeting the transportation needs of seniors. It is intended to build a commitment to taking action when it comes to supporting transportation and mobility options at the community level.
Workshop sessions include: Community Planning for Senior Mobility; Safe Driving for Seniors, Transportation Options for Seniors and Emergency Evacuation Concerns for Seniors.
Although the target audience for the event includes the eleven Metro Planning Organizations along the I-4 corridor, there has been significant interest generated throughout the state.
The WPHF has been involved in addressing transportation issues for older adults for several years and is committed to making a difference in this critical area. It is supporting the replication of a local faith-based transportation initiative called Community Care Teams and the replication of the Independent Transportation Network. The sponsorship of the Mobility Conference was a natural extension of this work.
Other sponsors include AARP Florida, METROPLAN, LYNXX, Orange County Government and the Senior Resource Alliance.
