In the belief Healthy Kids Make Better Students and Better Students Make Healthy Communities, WPHF, partnering with Orange County Public Schools, established the Coordinated Youth Initiative (CYI). Modeled after the Coordinated School Heath Program promoted by the Centers for Disease Control, the initiative involves parents, teachers, counselors, school administrators and health care professionals in programs to insure the health of the whole child.

CYI programs include:

1. CHILL--CHILL, which stands for Community Help & Intervention in Life's Lessons, is a free in-school counseling program for all students attending Winter Park Consortium schools (listed to the left).

2. School Nursing Initiative—WPHF funds enable Consortium schools to hire either Licensed Practical Nurses or Registered Nurses for school clinics.

3. Nurse Practitioners at Student Health Centers--WPHF funds also support Nurse Practitioners at two Student Health Centers. They have master's degrees and are able to provide more advanced care.

4. Healthy School Teams (HSTs)—WPHF funds support activities of HSTs at each Consortium school. Each team, made up of teachers, school staff, parents and sometimes students, develops activities to improve the health of the individual school.
